Community Events
Central Wheatbelt Harness Racing Club
Twelve meetings a year are held on average, with the major event being the Central Wheatbelt Harness Racing Cup held in May each year. The track was upgraded in 2000 and is now one of the better country venues for harness racing.
Keela Dreaming Cultural Festival
Is a bi-annual event celebrating indigenous culture. The festival includes an indigenous artists competition, music traditional and contemporary, arts and crafts, talent quest, story telling, bush tucker food, dancing.
Kellerberrin & Districts Agricultural Society
(incorporating the districts of Baandee, Doodlakine, Tammin, Yorkrakine, Yoting, Yelbeni)
This organization has been presenting an Annual Agricultural Show since its inception in 1920. The show portrays the districts culture in displays of produce and livestock, arts and crafts, photographic competition, cooking, show jumping.
The usual entertainment of sideshows, merry-go-rounds, showbags, clown/magician, chocolate wheels, fireworks display and other attractions, especially popular with the kids.
This event is held annually on the third weekend of September.
Anzac Day
A commemorative service, proceeded by a march of Ex Service personnel is held each year on 25th April along Massingham Street to the Memorial Hall. A simple expression of remembrance portrayed through the laying of wreaths by various town organizations is followed by a Memorial Service in the Town hall.
Senior Citizens Morning Tea
Each year in October, Council plays host to the Seniors Morning Tea for the senior citizens of the district, all persons over the age of 60 are welcome to come along. A morning tea of scones, jam and cream is provided, followed by a presentation, usually by one of the seniors on their life experience then some local entertainment and music.
Seniors Christmas Dinner
Hosted by the Kellerberrin Lions Club and held annually in December each year. A three course dinner is provided with entertainment during the night all at no charge to the seniors.
Christmas Street Party
This event is held on a Friday evening just prior to Christmas. The main street is closed to traffic from 5.00 pm to 9.00 pm. During this time this area comes alive with dancing displays, music, merry-go-round and of course a visit by Santa Claus who invariably arrives on the towns’ fire engine.
Many of the local sporting clubs and community groups set up street stalls and use this opportunity to raise funds for their organizations.
Australia Day
On the morning of 26th January each year Council hosts an Australia Day Breakfast at the Cuolahan Pavilion. In conjunction with this breakfast the awards for Citizen of the Year, Community Service Awards and Achievement Awards are presented.
District Welcome
In March each year Council hosts a District Welcome at the Cuolahan Pavilion. New Residents to the Shire are invited to attend along with members of various community groups in the Shire. The District Welcome officially welcomes new residents to our town and encourages interaction with present community members and information on community organisations and the Shire of Kellerberrin.
